What a thingamajig it is indeed!
I like the white cut out over it's face by the eye there, it makes it so that the white cut outs don't only cut out expendable background material, but actually cuts out a little of what we want to see as well, makes it very annoying and thus more disturbing so I think it works for the picture.
Maybe you could've experimented with putting little fragments of the picture inside the white spaces as well? I dunno, just a suggestion..
